WiFi
WLANs (Wireless Local Area Network) connect wireless devices, such as notebook computers and handhelds, to wireless access points that are attached to a local network coverage area of about 100 meters. Multiple access points can be coordinated through the WLAN to provide seamless switch offs as users move throughout the network.
An abbreviation for ‘Wireless Fidelity, WiFi describes the technology that creates a wireless local area network that allows compatible devices to access data on the network or the Internet. WiFi (IEEE 802.11) is the predominant set of standards established to define WLANS.
