Signaling

A tactic to let competitors know what you will do should they make a certain move. Conspiring with competitors to set prices or allocate markets is illegal. However, signalling, done judiciously is a marketing tactic. Airlines frequently practice signalling. In response to a competitor's price reduction on a route, an airlines lowers their prices 'signalling' that if the competitor keeps prices low it will result in a price war.
